Lebanese Flag March – April 18

On Saturday, April 18, the Youth of the Argentine-Lebanese Cultural Union (JUCAL) organized a “Peace for Lebanon” flag march, bringing together young people and members of the Lebanese community for a day dedicated to solidarity, remembrance, and raising awareness.

The event began with the national anthems of the Argentine Republic and the Lebanese Republic, followed by remarks from the President of JUCAL Buenos Aires, Mr. Andrés García, who emphasized the importance of preserving spaces for unity and expression during challenging times for the homeland of so many Lebanese families.

More than 100 participants then marched carrying a 30-meter-long Lebanese flag. The flag was first unfurled across the Dr. Roque Vítolo Bridge, where it received applause and supportive honks from passing drivers. The march continued toward the area surrounding the Faculty of Law at the University of Buenos Aires, creating a powerful display of unity and visibility in one of the city’s most iconic public spaces.

Throughout the march, the Lebanese and Argentine flags flew side by side, symbolizing the strong bond between the two nations and the pride of a community that has long been an integral part of Argentine society. The event also drew encouragement from pedestrians and local residents, many of whom expressed their support for the message of peace.

“It was a remarkable achievement and a gesture that the Lebanese community had been hoping to see from our institution,” said Mr. García at the conclusion of the event.

This flag march marks another step in JUCAL’s ongoing commitment to raising awareness about the situation in Lebanon while reaffirming that the voice of the Lebanese diaspora remains strong in Argentina, where it is estimated that nearly 10% of the population has Lebanese ancestry.
